2010

New for the 2010 season the C.X will have various sail handling equipment installed. Because reefing in the past had been challenging to say the least a Harken lazy jack system and Harken one line reefing has toped the list.

Harken was chosen over cheaper options primarily because past experience with their main sheet traveller systems were easy to install, with detailed instructions and performance could not have been better. Keeping it simple with a kit and saving time is a nice feature here. Despite hearing mixed reviews of the one line reefing system, it fit the plan to only have 3 lines led aft being worked by a single Harken #8 winch.

Halyards will be led from the mast through a set of Garhauer swivel stand-up blocks into a 3 way spinlock organizer then into the Lewmar D-1 triple rope clutch. What will be done with the rope tails is yet to be determined.

The Lewmar clutches are unique compared to other brands because of their domino setup. This allows the clutch to be released under tension. That should come in handy for quick headsail drops as well as convenient luff adjustments.

Last on the list so far is a new main sheet vang by Garhauer. We picked this up at the boat show for a fantastic price, hundreds less than systems by other manufacturers. All stainless and built like a tank I cant wait to haul myself up the mast with it.

Still on the possibilities list is a Strong Track system from Tides Marine.
